A major funder of ANTIFA and their varied and sundry nefarious causes are the PIRGs (Public Interest Research Groups) at EVERY university in North America.
Initially, the PIRGs did good work, exposing callous corporate pollution, real-world systemic racism, and injustices around the globe.HOWEVER, in the late 1990s onwards, PIRGS have become the absolute vanguard of extremist leftism, serving as funder, recruiter, and facilitator of Extremist Left causes on campus, providing a bridge between far-Left NGOs, local Labour Councils, Government programs, and mainstream academia.
I know of that which I speak, having served as a Board Member of OPIRG at a major Ontario university during the transition of PIRGs' mandate from advocate of actual social justice issues to it's present form of being the facilitator and funder of extremist-Left causes, actions, and narratives.PIRGs are funded almost solely from Student Fees. Any student is able to opt out of paying these funds, though the administarors of PIRGs on every campus go to great lengths to make doing so inconvenient, time-consuming, and onerous. This is by design.
Every PIRG on every campus counts on students not putting forth the time and effort to opt-out of the fees involved.
As mentioned in the above article, PIRGs (like TIDES Foundation, Soros' Open Society Foundation, and others) DO NOT directly pay erstwhile 'activists" to carry out their agendas. What they DO provide is an administrative nexus to funnel student fees towards organising, recruiting, and advancing the agendas of extremist-Left groups and their narratives, as well as providing them with a veneer of legitimacy.
Every PIRG has at least 1 full-time staffer ("Coordinator") to serve as recruitor, director, and facilitator of initiatives of the Extremist Left.
To sum it up, notorious ANTIFA and violent anarchist Jaggi Singh occupied this position at Concordia University for years, building a massive network to engage in often violent "activism" until his (far belated) removal due to extremism and support of terrorist activities.
While PIRGs do not directly fund or funnel paycheques to ANTIFA or their associates, they do provide (1) administrative and organisational support (2) liason services to Unions and NGOs to facilitate criminal activities (3) printing, venue-booking and communications support to extremist groups, and (4) faculty support to said causes, which provide ANTIFA and their comrades with a veneer of respectabilty.
WHAT STUDENTS CAN (and must) DO:
Every anti-communist student must make themselves aware of their ideological duty to opt-out of financially supporting the schemes of the Extremist Left.
While it is indeed onerous to opt-out of this SEEMINGLY inconsequential fee, in the end, your assent to paying the fee must be construed as support of their agenda. While it may only equal $4.00/annum, versus 3 hours of your time to deny them your funding, inaction equals consent. DO NOT FUND these bolsheviks.
Students interested in opposing this funding regime are encouraged to organise into collectives, to decide how to best utilise their dissent against the PIRGs to cause them maximal disruption. This can be done in 2 ways:
(1) Coordinate you opt-outs to cause low-level administrative burden on the (normally) lone Coordinator of the PIRG. This option has the benefit of long-term disruption as the Coordinator must be seen to be complying with opt-out requests, lest they be subject to formal administrative complaints.
(2) When your affinity group (yes i know it's a dirty commie word) decides that your schools' PIRG is organising something big, submit opt-out requests en masse to ensure the Staff is overwhelmed with the opt-outs and unable to spend time on organising their nefarious commie plots. This, as the option above, will require that you take steps to hold them accountable, both Administratively and publicly.
